Horsing around on Valentine’s Day: Angel Reins Stable helps veterans feel the love

ST. AUGUSTA — On Valentine’s Day, Angel Reins Stable founder Kathy Zachman wanted to make sure of one thing: that veterans were feeling the love.

This is the second year Zachman — owner of the stable that is part horse rescue and part healing space for veterans, survivors of human trafficking and others —  held a Valentine’s Day party for veterans living at Eagle’s Healing Nest in Sauk Centre.

“I think it’s cool how Kathy rescued some of … the horses,” said Eagle’s Healing Nest resident and former Army Bradley tank mechanic Dave Warner. “I think I’m kind of a rescue myself.”

Raluca Maida, an Eagle’s Healing Nest resident and Army National Guard member who attended the party Friday, was at Angel Reins for her first time. She said she loved the vibe and energy at the stable, specifically Zachman’s warmth and kindness focused toward veterans.

During her time there, she brushed a horse — her first time interacting with one up close.
